The Editorial Board of the journal Physical Bases of Instrumentation deeply regrets to announce that on August 31, 2025, at the age of 86,
Viktor Filippovich Kravchenko — Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, founder and Editor-in-Chief of the journal, an outstanding scholar in the fields of radiophysics and information technologies — passed away.
Viktor Filippovich was among the founders of Physical Bases of Instrumentation and devoted many years to its development. Thanks to his tireless efforts, the journal became a respected platform for publishing fundamental and applied research in radiophysics, scientific instrumentation, and modern methods of information processing. His high professionalism, broad scientific erudition, inexhaustible energy, and determination ensured the establishment of the journal and its recognition both in Russia and abroad.
The scientific legacy of Viktor Filippovich is immense: he authored 28 monographs, more than 900 articles, and 11 inventions, and founded a scientific school that trained dozens of Candidates and Doctors of Sciences. His works on the theory of R-functions, atomic functions, and methods of digital signal and image processing in radiophysics earned wide recognition in the international scientific community.
For the members of the Editorial Board, he was not only a leader and mentor but also an inspirer who set the highest scientific and moral standards. His principles, kindness, and unwavering devotion to science and to the development of the journal will remain for us a model, a support, and a guiding reference point.
The Editorial Board of Physical Bases of Instrumentation extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Viktor Filippovich Kravchenko. His bright memory will remain in the hearts of friends and colleagues, authors and readers. Until his last day, he actively followed and participated in the advancement of new scientific directions as well as the fate of the journal. Viktor Filippovich will forever remain for us an example of a true scientist and an inspirer in the pursuit of discoveries and new knowledge.
